The story is a prequel to the first part, set up ten years before the first of the Lost Planet series. Jim, the protagonist comes to the E.D.N III for money as a contracted hire, not knowing yet about the wicked plan of NEVEC. The mysterious story-line is ostensibly at par with the first Lost Planet game.
The gameplay is FPS shooter and also rely strongly on Quick Time Events. But the QTE seems to be more advanced with added cross hair in-between, for pointing.
The game features bigger akrid, like ‘spitter’. The militarized VS bipedal with arms and ammunition, is replaced by bigger rigs having winch and claws for mining (it’s a prequel, remember!!).
Gameplay involves a lot of user interaction. In the words of producer Andrew Szymanski, “we don’t want the game to do it for you. We wanted you to personally control the rig.” Lost Planet 3 provides lot of exploration with the side-quests added as new element. This offers more exploration than previous releases of the series. The team also said that this will be longest than its predecessors in the series.
Hopefully this time the game will do fairer than its previous one and be able to gain positive reviews.
